SacsTC--I already discovered the infinisource site and that did not help zephyr--I was going to experiment by trying the new Western Digital in combination with an old Western Digital I have laying around to see if that works versus the Maxtor.

Update your chipset drivers to newest version. But things were still a bit weird in that device manager showed "generic ide disk type47" for the Western Digital but only "disk drive" for the Maxtor.

Well I downloaded the latest chipset inf file from Intel which also updated the drive controller drivers. In cases where "available with OS" is stated, the operating system will install a Matrox driver that will give you basic 2D and 3D functionality, where this driver is supported by Microsoft.
